Ontario County Youth Court is overseen  by a devoted group of members known as the Steering Committee. These members are leaders in the courtroom and meet regularly and frequently with Youth Court staff to make improvements and policies for the program. They are committed Youth Court members that demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond the normal requirements for Youth Court membership, including overseeing the courtroom and mentoring new members and plan, as well as attend fundraising events for the betterment of the organization. The Steering Committee has elected officers that include a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Elections are held before the beginning of each school year for one year terms. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending 2-3 court sites a month and the mandatory monthly meeting.  

Officer Positions


Chair

The Chair leads the Steering Committee and oversees and plans meetings, therefore attendance at these meetings is mandatory. They also have a significant role in the training of new member and should be present throughout and especially during interviews. Acts as a leader and mentor in the courtroom and for all members of Youth Court. The Chair plays a critical role in planning fundraising events. The Chair is also responsible for addressing any recurring issues within the committee or the courtroom with Staff.


Secretary

The Secretary must take notes for all steering committee meetings. If unable to do so, it is their responsibility to temporarily fill this role. Following meetings, they must organize notes and send out minutes to all Steering Committee members as well as the Staff.

Vice Chair

Like the chair, vice chair comes with a certain degree of extra leadership, both in the courtroom and within the steering committee. Vice Chair could be requested to attend extra meetings with Youth Court Staff and Chair. Vice Chair also assists in interviewing new members for induction into Youth Court.


 Treasurer

When asked to help by staff, the treasurer will assist in managing funds. This specifically could include planning fundraising events and other youth court sponsored events. This responsibility may extend to organizing and purposing funds form fundraisers.
